A light aircraft belonging to the East African Civil Aviation Academy in Soroti crash landed near the runway at the school in Soroti Municipality, just over two weeks a similar incident injured two instructors.

The aircraft, which was among the six planes President Yoweri Museveni commissioned a few years back, crashed just after midday on Friday, narrowly missing the school fence.

According to sources who did not want to be named the plane touched the runway but proceeded to the grass opposite Kichinjaji ward in Northern division, Soroti Municipality.

One source identified the student pilot who was manning the plane as Lilian Namukwaya. The source described the incident as minor and the trainee pilot was not injured.

By 12:23pm when URN visited the crash site, workers were pushing the plane from the scene of accident in an apparent attempt to bar onlookers from taking photographs.

The Journalists were denied access to the academy.  

On February 4, another aircraft, a Cessna registration number   5 X- UAT crashed opposite in Gweri Sub County, Soroti, injuring two instructors.

This is the fourth aircraft to crash within a period of 10 years.

Ronald Lodiong, the acting Director East African Civil Aviation Academy, commonly known as Soroti Flying School, declined to comment when URN sounded him out after the incident.
