The delegation that comprises political, religious and cultural leaders arrived on Tuesday in Bangui, the capital of Central African Republic, to commiserate with the people there over the atrocities committed by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels.

Douglas Peter Okello, the Gulu district Speaker, explains that the group which is led by Ojara Mapenduzi, the Gulu district chairperson, traveled to Central African Republic on Monday with the aim of commiserating with the people there who are facing the atrocities committed by the LRA rebels.

Okello says the leaders will try and explain to the people in Central African Republic that the atrocities that are being committed are by individuals and should not be seen as by the Acholis,the tribe.

He says the group will also appear on local radio stations there to appeal to the community not to harm children who escape from captivity.  

According to Okello, the leaders will also use the radio shows to explain to the rebels that amnesty has been extended for those who denounce rebellion.

The other members part of the trip organized by Invisible Children, a Non Governmental Organization, include Rtd. Bishop Baker Ochola, Archbishop John Baptist Odama and Santa Oketta, the Gulu district secretary for community development.
