A major reconstruction and renovation project is underway at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital to increase its capacity to deal with the demand for its services. Michael Oside, the hospital's medical superintendent, says financing of the renovation was provided through capital development funds from the Ministry of Health. He says it will be used to make major repairs to the hospital that was built in the 1930, to increase ward space and to provide large improved accommodation for the staff. //Cue in: iThe structure for #i Cue out: i# position of the nurses.i// Construction of the housing unit will cost 700 million shillings. An extra two billion shillings has been set aside to build a private wing at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital. Oside says the money from the private wing will be used to fill in funding gaps and provide an adequate revenue base to improve health services to the Kigezi sub-region. Fundraising is also ongoing for the construction of a new maternity wing and an operating theatre for the hospital.
