3 Die In Rakai Road Accident

Three people have been confirmed dead while eight others were injured seriously after the taxi they were travelling in burst a tyre, veered of the road and fell in a swamp.

Three people have died on the spot in a road accident along Masaka - Kalisizo road in Rakai district.  
The accident occurred at Ninzi village in Kalisizo, Rakai district when a speeding commuter taxi, registration number UAS 144N veered off the road after getting a flat tyre and fell into the swamp. The taxi was travelling from Kampala to Rakai.
Two of the deceased have been identified as Ritah Nabossa, a resident of Bira Kireka in Kampala and John Kasita of Ninzi Kalisizo in Rakai. The other victim is a girl yet to be identified.
Other occupants were critically injured Kalisizo and Masaka hospitals. Among the injured are the taxi driver and his conductor.
According to Peter Matovu, one of the eye witnesses, the speeding vehicle got a flat tyre and the driver lost control. It then plunged in the swamp killing three people and critically injuring eight others.              
The Rakai District Traffic Police Commander, Swaibu Muhumuza has attributed the accident to over-speeding and reckless driving by the taxi driver.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Masaka hospital mortuary.
