Police at Nyendo in Masaka District are holding two men for allegedly defiling a 13 year old girl.

Police has identified the suspects as Derrick Nakibinge and Hamuzah Lubega, both residents of Binyonyi B village, Nyendo Ssenyange Division in Masaka.

The duo was picked up by village council authorities and police from an abandoned house after a public outcry over increasing cases of rape in the area.

According to Nyendo Ssenyange Division chairperson Charles Kabulasoke, his office has received several complaints about the suspects and their accomplices still at large of defiling and gang raping women from their hideout.

Noah Serunjoji, Southern Region Police commander, says that the victim has been taken to Masaka Referral hospital for HIV/ Aids test as suspects are still locked up at Nyendo police station waiting to face charges of defilement and rape.

Sserunjoji says that sexual crimes cases are on rise in Masaka Region. Out of every 10 cases registered by police 6 are related to either defilement or rape.

He explains such cases include that of a 47-year-old at Katovu in Lwengo man who reportedly defiled his 13 year old daughter for almost a year, a 40 year old school teacher who allegedly defiled two pupils aged 8 and 13, a 30-year old man, a resident of Kinoni trading centre in Lwengo who defiled his three nieces and a 38 father who also defiled his own daughter among other cases.
