Police in Sembabule are holding 11 robbers for their alleged involvement in the theft of goats meant for the NAADS programme. The goats were in 2008, distributed to model farmers in Mateete, Lwebitakuli, Mijwara and Rugusuru sub-counties. The suspects all from Bukomansimbi district were arrested on Sunday night, following a tip off by residents of Ssembabule district. Police says the suspects have been breaking into people's houses and waylaid businessmen along Masaka-Sembabule Road. One of these robbers identified as Kyakuwa- a habitual robber and a resident of Kasaana village in Mateete Sub- County has been using a gun. The police recovered TV sets, radios, computers, mattresses, machetes and clothes that the suspects robbed from Sembabule district. Steven Tanui, the district police commander, says the suspects will be taken to court shortly. Her says that Sembabule has registered more than 23 cases of robbery. Tanui added that they have registered over 100 cases of cattle theft between January and October 2010. Meanwhile, residents of Bukunda trading center along Masaka-Kyotera Road, have killed unidentified robber who they accused of housebreaking. The man was killed while attempting to break into the house belonging to one of the residents.
