The Police in Kanungu district have exhumed the body of a nine year old girl after relatives raised allegations that she was killed.

Prize Turyamwesimira, a resident of Omukibaale Cell, Mishenyi Parish in Rugyenyo Sub County, went missing on the 15th of September and was later found dead with her body hidden under a tree with crimping passion fruits.

Besides her body was a big stone which her parents suspected she fell on while collecting passion fruits.

However, during the burial on the next day, rumours went around that she had been murdered by unknown people, which prompted her father, Amosi Tugumisirize, to report the matter to Kanungu Police Station who initiated inquiries.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was actually hacked to death by people whose names have been withheld by Police.

The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate confirms the incident, saying that initial investigations show that the deceased was hacked to death before her body was placed under the tree.

He says that the Police were forced to exhume the body for further investigations.

Matte says the hunt for the suspects is on.
