Uganda’s Beach volleyball women’s team settled for bronze during the second round of the Africa Olympics qualification that ended in Bejaja, Algeria last Friday.

The Beach Volleyball She Cranes lost to Mozambique in the knock-out competition.

They battled with the 2011 All Africa Games hosts, and could have easily sent the game in tie-break, but their opponents had more nerves and game plan to finish off the game.

In the other knock-out series the hosts Algeria stopped Sierra Leone to set up the final against Mozambique. Algeria then went ahead to beat Mozambique in a tight derby that called for the unique golden set to break the tie and taking it all at 3-2. Uganda out settled for bronze after beating Sierra Leone on points at the two day event.

Uganda was represented by Vivienne Aketch/ Sharon Pajije & Mercy Ikomolot/Andrina Namata with referee Eddie Okila who doubled as head of delegation.

Both Algeria and Mozambique have qualified for the final continental round in June 2012, while Uganda’s seeding will slowly improve.
