Kyambogo University maintained top position in the second leg of the ongoing Western Union Inter University Rugby league. On Sunday they were lucky to beat archrivals and current champions Uganda Christian University on a coin toss.

Tournament officials decided to go for the ultimate option when darkness began setting in and the two teams could not complete the game in extra time. Initially Kyambogo took an early three point lead in the first half when Charles Onechan converted a penalty kick.

UCU also replied with a penalty conversion late in the second half when Caesar Mboye made no mistake to make it 3-3 in a tense game. A week ago Kyambogo completed the first leg with a 16-6 drubbing over UCU and were lucky this time round in the second leg.

Action resumes on October 30th at the Makerere University rugby grounds, where Makerere Impis will host eight other teams battling for the coveted college rugby crown.

The Western Union University Rugby League is taking place at four different locations; Makerere University (MUK), Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Uganda Christian University (UCU) and Kyambogo University.

Western Union injected Shs17 million to support the league as part of developing young rugby players who will join teams playing in the national league.
