On Monday, the traffic police
launched an operation targeting Boda boda cyclists operating without helmets, reflector jackets, or riding permits and those riding
motorcycles in bad mechanical condition among other traffic offenses.
The police erected checkpoints at Bwaise traffic lights, Wandegeya, the clock tower, Kyebando near Akamwesi Shopping Center, and Martin road among other areas. Subsequently, more than 4,000 Boda boda riders received Express Penalty tickets-EPS during the police crackdown.
The operation helped to create some sanity among the Boda boda riders as many were seen complying with the police directives. A number of riders were seen wearing reflector jackets and helmets. Our reporter moved to different roads in Kampala and brings you pictures showing how th riders complied.
