Uganda top player Duncan Mugabe is out of the on-going 2018 ITF Uganda Pro Circuit.

Mugabe lost to Russia's Shalva Dzhanashiya 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 in the first round at the Lugogo Tennis Courts on Wednesday. Mugabe who won two games in the qualifiers to enter the main draw failed to study his opponent losing the first set 6-0 in the center  Court.

A determined Mugabe returned with determination to win the second set 6-4 as he moved the Russian to all corners of the court. But as Mugabe took an early 3-2 lead in the final set, he gave Dzhanashiya room to get back into the game and eventually win the set 6-3.

" I am disappointed that I failed to take my chance in the final set. But I am happy with the way in which I came back into the game," Mugabe told URN after the game.

Uganda's Boris Aguma who got a wildcard into the main draw also failed to make it to the second round after falling 6-1, 6-1 to India's Prajwal Dev. The two players join the other Ugandans Paul Ssekandi, Simon Peter Ayella and David Oringa who were all bundled out.

In the other games played the tournament's seed 2 Fabrizio Ornago (Italy) defeated Russia's Anton Chekhov 6-3, 6-4, while Niklas Johansson (Sweden) saw off Poland's Dariusz Lipka 6-1, 7-6 (4).

Uganda's Mugabe will now concentrate on the men's doubles where he is in the quarter final stage with his partner from Burundi Hassan Ndayishimiye.  They stopped David Oringa from Uganda and DeMark Schulze (USA) 6-2, 6-3 to make it to the quarter finals where they face Kunal Anand (India) and Giovanni Samaha (Lebanon) on Thursday.

After the Future 1 which ends this weekend, Uganda will host three other events that end on May 28th. Uganda is hosting the Circuit after clearing the outstanding 81 million shilling  (US$22,500) dollar debt to ITF that had accumulated over a five-year period.
