On April 14, as Christians in Uganda and around the world celebrated Good Friday, Philly Bongoley Lutaayas remains and those of six other people were being reburied in Gomba, almost a week after being exhumed from Kasingiri Zone in Bunamwaya. It was on Friday April 14, 1989 that Lutaaya, then at the peak of his music career, shocked the world by announcing that he was suffering from AIDS. He would succumb to the virus eight months later on December 15, 1989, aged 38 years.
